Shirley Temple: Saying Goodbye to an Icon

shirley
I am saddened by the news that we have lost this great star.  While other kids were crazy about the latest band or teen actor I was watching old black and white movies.  My biggest hero was Shirley Temple.     I have written about her before and even dressed my daughter up as her for a photo shoot.  She as a person has shown the world that not only can you make it through life under the microscope of worldwide fame, but you can do it with grace, class and intelligence.

There are a million articles today listing all of her great achievements, but this is not going to be one of those. Shirley’s movies helped me connect with a grandparent that wasn’t always the easiest to bond with and for that I will be forever grateful.  If you don’t know her accomplishments you should read about her, but today I’m going to reflect on her ability to make people smile and laugh during hard times.  Below are some of my favorite scenes from her movies.  Enjoy.

This next video was groundbreaking in an era where whites and blacks rarely shared scenes in movies, much less danced together

She definitely grew up amazingly:

And lastly from what I think is the saddest movie ever:

Thank you Shirley Temple.
