Supernatural: Slumber Party!

Dorothy

OK this is way late. I’m going to blame it on Halloween, but I did get to watch Tuesday night and do have some opinions so here we go:

Charlie

I have mixed feelings about the Charlie episodes. I really like Felicia Day, and really enjoyed her first episode where she helped the boys defeat Dick Roman. That made sense. Felicia is a nerd, she does computer stuff, ergo she plays a convincing hacker. I thought she was a cool guest star and all was cool. However, I’ve not been crazy about her subsequent appearances. Yeah I can see her LARPing, but I didn’t like that episode much, mostly because it was mixed in with the horrible story arc of season 8. I admit that she makes sense coming and checking out this computer system in the bat cave. I don’t buy her as a hunter though.

To stay on a positive note, she has great one liners and I love the whole Supernatural book series jab and it reminded me of the ache in my heart that was filled with Chuck.  I still hope that Chuck/God will show back up someday.  I also loved Dorothy in this episode.  She was just the right mix of tough girl and cheeky 30’s style one liners.  The exchange between Crowley and the Wicked Witch– amazing.  Of course everything Mark Sheppard does is amazing.  This is the stuff I love about Supernatural.  Yes Crowley is evil, but all I want is him to get out of that trap and DO SOMETHING!  This exchange at least helped out with my Crowley need.  The exchange with the boys helped too.  They totally are the Scarecrow and Tin Man.

Sammy and charlie

Now did I think everything was hunky dory in this episode?  No.  Obviously this is a filler episode and I would have loved it hands down if they had left out the whole Oz thing and left it with a witch from another world and a vintage hunter that had been hunting her.  You would still have the key, still have the witch, still have Dorothy, but lose all the cheesiness.  I also totally didn’t buy that Charlie killed the wicked witch with the ruby slipper.  Do you know how much strength and follow through it would take to jab a shoe heel into someone’s head??  Yeah, maybe if she’d been fighting the witch and adrenaline could have been used as an excuse, but she sneaked up on her and stabbed her.  I call crap.  Also those shoes were really new looking to have been sitting in a motorcycle bag for 75 years.

How long until Sam figures out about Zeke by the way?  He remembered this time Dean calling Zeke’s name out (speaking of which did Zeke not have enough juice to wipe Sam’s memory?  Or was this slip on purpose?) and Dean had to cover with another bad lie.  I give it two more episodes before Sam is in full out “something’s wrong” mode.  I also feel like the writers are wanting us to dwell on the fact that Sam hasn’t moved in yet.  I was satisfied with his explanation that every time he has made a home something horrible happens.  He has a point there.

So overall I give this a pretty good rating.  As far as filler goes it was good.  Once again the thing that would have made this great would have been to drop the whole “Wizard of Oz” thing.  If I wanted to watch fairytale crossovers I would watch Once Upon a Time.  I’m curious to see how next week’s Dean/ Dog situation goes.
